Dengan menggendong keranjang, membawa tongkat besi lengkap dengan topi capingnya, berulang kali ia mengobrak-abrik tumpukan sampah berharap menemukan barang bernilai agar dapat terus mengepulkan asap di dapurnya.
Itulah gambaran seorang pemulung yang mengais rezeki yang kita kenal sebagai pejuang pengolah sampah. Mengumpulkan sebanyak-banyaknya sampah untuk dijual menjadi tujuan mendapatkan penghasilan bagi keluarganya.
Di kota besar, tak jarang kita disuguhkan dengan pemandangan perempuan, anak-anak hingga lansia menyandang keranjang dan menyusuri jalan, mencari rejeki dengan memulung. Jangankan bersekolah, ketiadaan biaya pada akhirnya memaksa anak-anak di bawah umur turut berjibaku dengan sampah demi memenuhi kebutuhan hidup.
Sadar atau tidak banyak dari kita yang merasa iba dengan profesi yang mereka jalankan. Tapi tak banyak dari kita yang tergerak untuk melakukan aksi nyata membantu memerhatikan kesejahteraan mereka.
Adalah sosok Siti Salamah yang tak asing di kalangan pemulung di kota Tangerang Selatan, Banten. Selama bertahun-tahun Siti mendedikasikan diri untuk mendampingi ribuan pemulung di Jurang Mangu Timur mulai dari pendidikan hingga pemberdayaan ekonomi.
Wanita berusia 34 tahun ini memulai aktivitasnya di lapak pemulung sejak tahun 2015. Awalnya Siti mendirikan Rumah Pohon yang dulunya bernama Taman Maghrib Mengaji.
Siti membantu anak pemulung mendapatkan pendidikan non formal sekaligus spiritual yang berdampak baik pada karakter mereka.
Melalui Rumah Pohon, Siti juga melakukan pengembangan kepada masyarakat. Bersama dengan rekan-rekannya, Siti memberikan pembinaan kepada para ibu pemulung agar mampu bersaing dan mandiri.
“Pemulung harus diberdayakan untuk mengubah stigma negatif dan menaikkan taraf hidup mereka yang terpinggirkan dan termarjinalkan”, ujar Penerima Apresiasi SATU Indonesia Awards 2021 Kategori Kelompok dari Astra Siti Salamah.
Pada tahun 2018, Siti bersama sejumlah rekannya mendirikan Waste Solution Hub, penyedia solusi pengolahan sampah terintegrasi.
Waste Solution Hub atau WasteHub memberdayakan kaum marjinal terutama pemulung dalam program layanannya dan hadir memberi kesempatan kepada para pemulung untuk mendapatkan binaan dan pekerjaan dengan penghasilan yang lebih baik.
Model Kelola WasteHub memotong proses yang bisa dipersingkat. Selama ini sampah dari rumah diambil pemulung untuk diberikan ke lapak kemudian dijual ke tempat besar melewati empat hingga lima pengepul kakap.
Harga sampah plastik biasanya berkisar dua ribu rupiah per kilogram sedangkan di industri besar bisa sampai lima ribu rupiah per kilogram sehingga dengan proses yang dipersingkat, margin sebesar 2 kali lipat tersebut bisa langsung masuk ke kantong para pemulung.
Hal tersebut pada akhirnya membawa para pemulung di Jurang Mangu Timur ke level yang lebih baik. Perjuangan Siti dalam solusi pengelolaan sampah terintegrasi yang melibatkan para pemulung ini berhasil menjadikannya sebagai penerima apresiasi 12th SATU Indonesia Awards tingkat nasional untuk Kategori Kelompok yang mewakili lima bidang sekaligus, yaitu Kesehatan, Pendidikan, Lingkungan, Kewirausahaan dan Teknologi.
Atas apresiasi tersebut, Siti mendapatkan dana bantuan kegiatan sebesar Rp60 juta dan pembinaan kegiatan dari Astra yang dapat dikolaborasikan dengan kontribusi sosial berkelanjutan Astra yaitu Kampung Berseri Astra dan Desa Sejahtera Astra.
INOVASI SOSIAL WASTE SOLUTION HUB
Ibukota negara, Jakarta tidak hanya menjadi pusat pemerintahan tetapi juga telah menjadi pusat segala pertumbuhan dan perkembangan. Menurut data Kementerian Dalam Negeri, dengan jumlah penduduk sebesar 11,25 juta jiwa per tahun 2021 lalu, Jakarta menghasilkan volume sampah mencapai sebesar 8.000 ton setiap harinya.
Berangkat dari kegelisahan Siti Salamah dan rekan-rekannya atas permasalahan sampah yang terjadi, mereka menggagas kegiatan inovasi sosial yang berfokus pada pengelolaan sampah dan ekonomi sirkular di daerah urban, Waste Solution Hub.
Program ini melakukan pendekatan sistem teknologi yang terintegrasi dan melibatkan multi-pihak. Ada sejumlah program pengelolaan sampah, namun kegiatan aktivitas sosial untuk turut memperhatikan kehidupan para pemulung menjadi nilai tambah dan pembeda Waste Solution Hub.
Program yang dilakukan yaitu pengelolaan sampah event dan cluster perumahan dilakukan dengan proses end-to-end untuk menambah nilai berkelanjutan. Program ini juga melakukan pelatihan intensif pemulung dilakukan untuk memberikan peluang tambahan dan keterampilan serta program konsultan keberlanjutan untuk menghilangkan risiko dan tetap berkelanjutan, untuk proyek #lesswaste atau bahkan #zerowaste.
Hingga kini, Waste Solution Hub telah mengedukasi lebih dari 23.000 pengunjung, menangani lebih dari 10 proyek, memiliki lebih dari 60 orang relawan, mengelola lebih dari 2.400 kilogram sampah, memberdayakan lebih dari 1.200 pemulung, dan mendistribusikan 3.066 paket sembako untuk pemulung.
WasteHub menargetkan dapat melibatkan setidaknya 10.000 mitra pemulung, meningkatkan 100 persen pendapatan para pemulung, menargetkan pengelolaan 1.000 ton sampah per hari, menghasilkan 1.000 produk daur ulang serta mengembangkan 10 area pusat daur ulang serta pembelajaran di seluruh Indonesia.
